Back In Time...

There's something so dreamy about old black and white photos! A few weeks ago I went to visit my grandparents and my grandmother had tons and tons of old black and white photos laid out on her table that she was going through. I came across these photos of my grandparents a few days ago and I fell in love with them. They remind me of picnics in the park and warm Summer days. I'm looking for a few photos that I can frame and hang on a gallery wall. I love the idea of having sweet memories like these hanging around my space.

What about you? Do you have any old family photos that are particularly special to you?

Peace and Love,
Em

Feel Free...

As I'm thinking up ideas for future blog posts I wonder if there are any suggestions of things that you would like to see on the blog. My group of readers truly mean the world to me. I am amazed that some of you stop by everyday to leave a comment! The love that I get from you guys is overwhelming and I am so thankful for it. So feel free to throw out suggestions! Let me know if there are things I can improve on or specific types of posts that you all would like to see.

Let's Talk About Film...

More and more lately I find myself falling in love with film cameras. I think a lot of it is the fact that I love the rawness of the photos and the little imperfections that come with it. I also like that you aren't going to know what you really have until you get the film developed. I used to be in love with my instax mini but sadly it died a while back. I do have an instant camera on my list of things to buy but for the sake of this Summer I am thinking of just using a disposable camera. I also might use my parents' old camera from the 90's and see how that turns out. I'm really excited to try out some of these options and see what I like best! It will be such a fun way to capture Summer memories!

Do you use a film camera? What's your favorite type of film to use?

B&W...

Tuesday it was cold and rainy but the trees were popping out so beautifully. I decided to take a few black and whites just to capture the feeling of the day.

Free People November 2012...

I am constantly looking for inspiration and one of my favorite places to find it is in photographs. Yesterday I picked up the November catalogue from Free People and was instantly blown away. These photos are gorgeous!! I LOVE the settings, the clothes, everything! I think this might be one of my favorite lookbooks ever.

Latin Fashion Week...

My first assignment as an intern for DC Life Magazine was to go and cover a few of the shows at Latin Fashion week 2012. The experience was so cool! I had full access to everything and even got to go backstage to meet the designers! I can't say it enough how blessed I feel that God has given me this incredible opportunity and I cant wait to see what else I get to do in the future. Here are some of my favorite shots from that day:

You can see more of my photos here:

And guess what, my pictures even made the front page headline!!!

And they used one of my photos to promote the photography on the site!!

I'm am such a happy girl right now.

Lesson 4...

Lesson 4 in the "Two Peas In A Bucket" photography course is the kick-off lesson for lighting. It mainly focuses on White Balance. The challenge was to take an object and shoot it in auto mode, a mode with tungsten lighting, and then to shoot it with your custom white balance. I decided to use my favorite piece of office equipment: my rainbow post-its!!! I think the third photo is my favorite, the one with the custom white balance. Needless to say it's something that I need to continue working with!

Have a happy and safe Labor Day!

Summer Reading...

I always try to set a goal for myself doing a lot of reading during the Summer. This Summer I cut down the number of books a bit but I did manage to read everything on my list. Also, I borrowed a book and read and e-book that are not pictured. I loved each and everyone of these books and they were all so different. I would have to say that my two favorites were The Hangman's Daughter and One Day.

This also just so happens to be part 2 of lesson 2 in the "Two Peas In A Bucket" photography course. It's all about working with exposure. So there you have it! Knocking out two topics in on blog post!!

Shutter Speed...

Moving on to lesson 2 in the "Two Peas In A Bucket" photography course! Now we start working with Shutter speed. The object in this lesson was to note the amount of detail that is in your picture depending on the shutter speed you use. I did have a bit of trouble with my photos getting darker the higher I put the shutter speed. Other than that, I think it's so cool how a matter of seconds can make one photo look so different from another!
