Meg's Chocolate Chip Cookies...

My sister, Maddie, is turning into quite the little baker. Yesterday she made Meg's chocolate chip cookies. They were very yummy and perfect for a Saturday afternoon snack! Plus, I made french toast for dinner, so it was good eatin' all around.

Christmas Eve Eve...

One piece of advice: don't go to the grocery store the day before Christmas Eve. You will regret it. Today started off with muffins and coffee while we watched our uncle's Christmas program. Then I went to the office to hang out with my mom and Kristen and we laughed until we cried.
It was a great day filled with:

Red nails:

Falling in LOVE with glitter wrapping paper:

Bows:
Santa Tags:
Suprise packages from my awesome hippie cousin:

A night of making cookies, lots and lots of cookies:

And trying a new part in my hair:

I can't believe Christmas Eve is tomorrow!
Peace and Love until then,

Lemon Cupcakes...

Remember how I said that I always ended up with more icing than I needed? Well this time I didn't mind. This lemon icing was delicious!! I was the one licking the bowl clean this time.
I have always been a fan of lemon cake and these cupcakes just furthered my love for it. They are the perfect little summer treat!

Next up: Strawberry Cheesecake Cupcakes.

Peace and Love,
Em
P.S. The icing is yellow, it just doesn't look like it in all the pictures.

Red Velvet Cupcakes...

So item #3 in the Hummingbird cookbook was the red velvet supcake. I have always been a red velvet girl. I don't know why but I just love it. Making the cake part of this recipe was easy (except for getting red food coloring all over myself) but the icing was a little harder. It was the thickest icing I have made from scratch so far and took the longest to mix. I have notcied that no matter how precisely I follow the directions I always end up with way more icing than I need. Luckily I have a few willing volunteers to lick the bowl and spoon clean :)
I really like these cupcakes! I made them tonight and have already had two. I think it's something about having everything made from scratch!

Next item on the agenda: The Lemon cupcake.

Chocolate Cupcakes...

So last week I made my second item from the Hummingbird Bakery book. These chocolate cupcakes were divine. It's amazing how different something tastes when you make it from scratch. Even if you are not a big chocolate fan (which means you are crazy) you'll like these. They are the perfect little afternoon snack.

Next up: Red Velvet Cupcakes

Vanilla Cupcakes...

Ok so you may have noticed that one of the things to do on my summer list is to work through an entire baking book. This is thte one I have chosen:

The hummingbird bakery is one of the best bakeries in London. If looking at the pictures wasn't enough to make me want to make the food, Gwenyth Paltrow wrote the foreword.

I am working through the entire book in order and the first recipe was for vanilla cupcakes. I made everything from scratch, icing and all. I thought they came out pretty good and were the best vanilla cupcakes I have ever had.

Check back for round two: The Chocolate Cupcake

Peace and Love,
Em
