Happy Halloween...

I hope that everyone had a fantastic Halloween filled with your favorite candy and a little mischief. I enjoyed my day by drinking coffee in the afternoon and watching "Sleepy Hollow" (the Johnny Depp version, of course!). I didn't dress up this year but I loved seeing all of my friends costumes on instagram!
Did you dress up? I would love to see photos!

Basking In Autumn...

Lately I have been loving the mood-boards and collages that other bloggers have been creating! I decided to make one of my own focused on Autumn-inspired images. Being surrounded by birch trees, mini white pumpkins, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying a hot cup of apple cider- all of these things sound perfectly lovely! I'm trying to make the most of this season and take advantage of all of the things that go along with it. Looking at these photos makes me want to bask in the festivities of Fall.

Ch-ch-ch-Changes...

I have always dreamed of going to New England in the Fall and seeing the changing leaves with their vibrant reds, yellows, & oranges. The trees are beginning to change here but their colors are nothing in comparison to those that I've seen in pictures. I went out this weekend and tried to capture some our trees that are transitioning. I love this time of year when new chapters begin and it seems like we are presented with a fresh start. Fitzgerald said it best when he wrote, "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall."

October Goals...

I cannot believe how fast October is rushing by! I feel like there was so much that I wanted to do this Autumn and time has just escaped me. That being said, here is a short list of things that I still want to do before October ends:

1. Paint a pumpkin. (My sister and I have ours we just need to get the paint!)
2. Read a scary/mystery novel.
3. Watch a (semi) scary movie.
4. Take pictures of the changing leaves.
5. Drink another pumpkin spice latte.
6. Listen to "Harvest" by Neil Young.

Fall Essentials...

Fall 2

Right now I am on the hunt for a few perfect sweaters and the chunkiest infinity scarf I can find! I am loving the scarves from Zara right now- I can't pick a favorite! I am having trouble finding sweaters that I love that aren't super expensive. I tend to get pretty cold in the winter/fall so I am looking for things that are comfy and stylish. And I just thought that some "Crosby, Stills, and Nash" would go perfectly with this sweater and scarf combo.

Where are you finding all of your Fall wardrobe essentials? I would love to know!

Little Moments...

More and more lately I am starting to love those little moments of time during the day that I am creating for myself. It might just be the time I spend drinking my coffee in the morning or an hour of watching tv in bed at night, but let me tell you, I love that time. I have been starting to hate that fact that because my schedule is so busy I have to pencil in time for God. He should be the first thing on my mind when I wake up and the last thing I think about when I go to sleep but lately I just wake up and get straight into my routine and then I fall right asleep at night. So it's those moments of peace, those few quiet minutes when I can focus on God and myself, that I have been coming to love lately- that time when I can clear my head and just remind myself of what is really important in life.

Do you make time for yourself during the day? What are your favorite things to do to relax?

Valley View...

On Sunday my family and I continued to do one of our favorite Fall traditions and went out to Valley View Farms. We go every year in October to pick out our pumpkins, get Halloween decorations, and browse through the huge Christmas store. I picked out a nice white pumpkin to paint and then a little mini one to put in my room. I also picked up a few glass ornaments for my future Christmas tree. It was a nice Sunday with the family. I love our little tradition!

Do you have any Fall traditions? I would love to hear them!

Currently...

My mom has been asking me to do one of these "currently" posts for a while now so without further ado:

Reading: I had been interested in reading the "Matched" series by Ally Condie this summer (I guess I was on a little sci-fi kick. Strange.) I started the first book a few weeks ago and I have to say that I'm not loving it. There's not a lot of depth to the story and I'm just not that interested in seeing what happens to the characters. I'm going to finish the first book but I don't think that I will go on to read the other two. I have a whole list of books that I want to read this Fall/Winter so I need to get started!

Listening to: All of my Fall favorites including Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Volcano Choir- the list goes on. In terms of new music, I love "No. 1 Party Anthem" off of the Arctic Monkeys new album. It reminds me so much of David Bowie and "Space Oddity."

Feeling Thankful: For time spent listening to records and doing homework by candlelight. I'm starting to realize that even though I spend most of my free time doing schoolwork I can still find ways to make it a little more enjoyable.

Thinking about: Crisp Fall days that involve Pumpkin Spice lattes and a trip to my favorite bookstore. Hopefully I can fit in a day like this sometime soon!

Eating: A little bit of everything. I have been eating more eggs and salmon lately. I'm trying to think up some more creative healthy lunch/dinner ideas. It's easy to get tired of sticking to the same old thing and I'm ready to change it up.

Watching: A whole lot of stuff! The few hours that I have free during the day are usually late at night and so I have really been taking advantage of Netflix. Lately, I have been loving "Bored to Death" with Jason Schwartzman (he's one of my favorites!). I've also started watching "Sleepy Hollow" and "Nashville" with my sister.

Bummed Out on: Just thinking about how fast this year has gone by. It makes me realize how I really need to cherish each and every day. Before we know it it will be 2014. Ahh!

Loving: The fact that Domino magazine is back! I've ordered my copy and can't wait to get my hands on it.

Is It Fall Yet?...

Even though the stores are stocked with Halloween candy and a few pumpkins are out it really hasn't started to feel like Fall around here. For the past week we've had temperatures in the high 70s and 80s and I've been walking around in tank tops and shorts. I mean, it's October! I am ready for coats and scarves and crisp breezes. I did wander outside this weekend and saw that some of our trees were starting to change color so that is a good sign. In the meantime I am trying to squeeze in Autumnal things when I can: today I had my second Pumpkin Spice latte of the season, we've watched Sleepy Hollow, and there are little clusters of pumpkins around the house.

Are you as desperate for Fall as I am?

Peace and Love,
Em
