Concerning Food...

It is no secret that one of my favorite things to photograph is food, especially sweets. That's why it might seem hard to believe that for a long time I didn't have a good relationship with food. In fact, I hated food. However, now I am at a place in my life where I really enjoy food. I will be the first to admit that I am not a super healthy eater. I have tried eating organic, cutting out lots of meat- things like that. For some reason I just can't do it or if I do it it doesn't last long.

Something I still struggle with a good amount of the time is my body image. There really hasn't been a time in my life when I have been happy with the way that I looked. That's a sad thing. Unfortunately, it's something that a lot of girls go through. However, lately I've been really taking care of myself. I've been working out during the week and watching that I don't eat tons of sugar, and I have been drinking lots of water. What also really helps me is knowing that there are women out there who I think are GORGEOUS and they are not skinny as a rail. Two women who really inspire me are Adele and Mindy Kaling.

These ladies are not your average "hollywood" girls, but I think they are so much better. They are beautiful and they don't care about what other people say about their weight. You know why? Because they are confident in themselves and they aren't afraid to enjoy food and live a normal life. I love this quote from Adele:

"I like looking nice, but I always put comfort over fashion. I don't find thin girls attractive; be happy and healthy. I've never had a problem with the way I look. I'd rather have lunch with my friends than go to the gym."

All of that to say that I am working on loving my body. I'm not going to put myself on a diet that I can't handle. And personally, I'm 20 years old and I don't think that I should have to worry about dieting at this time in my life. Right now I just want to focus on taking care of my body by exercising and eating better. I think that we all should enjoy life and and love the way we look. If you want to eat a cupcake then eat a cupcake. I'm still going to enjoy food and take lots of pictures of it, but I am just going to try and cut out the unnecessary stuff.

Cupcakes For the Oscars...

I haven't baked anything for a long time so on Sunday I made double chocolate cupcakes for the Oscars. I used my recipe from Hummingbird Bakery and I think they tasted pretty divine. What I like about them is that there is not a lot of sugar or flour in them- I think this just makes them taste better and the cocoa really stands out.

Did you watch the Oscars? What did you think?

Vibin'...

I've been spending a lot of time listening to music lately. I guess it's really my one escape when I am working out or doing homework.  I thought I would share some songs that I have been really vibing to this week. It is hump day after all- maybe some of us are in need of a pick-me-up.

Arrow...

Lately I have been so consumed with school that it is nice to just sit down and do a little crafting every once in a while. On Sunday I made a project which I have been wanting to do for a long time: an arrow. I wanted an arrow to hang on the wall behind my bed but really just couldn't find one so I decided to make one. I followed this tutorial but put my own spin on a few things. I really love how it turned out and it fits perfectly on the wall. I might have to make more of these :)

We Were Stuffed...

This past weekend we drove out to Reston, VA to spend time with my Mom's side of the family. I love Reston and was happy that we got to spend some time there shopping and walking around. We ate lunch at The American Tap Room. Let me tell you, this place had some GOOD food. I tried fried pickles for the first time and enjoyed their bacon jalapeƱo mac and cheese. After lunch a few of us split up. My mom, aunt, and I ran over to the Red Velvet Cupcakery to pick up some treats while the rest of our group walked over to Apple to help my grandmother purchase her first iPad. We stuck around and peeked into a few different shops and then headed to my Aunt and Uncle's house to chat and enjoy our cupcakes. It was a fun and relaxing day and I hope that we can do it again soon.

A Single Girl's Guide to Valentine's Day...

Yet another year where I will be spending Valentine's alone. Although I have never had a real proper Valentine I still adore the holiday and celebrate it the best I can :) Here are a few ways for a single girl to celebrate her Valentine's Day...

1. Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth: You can't let Valentine's pass without getting yourself something sweet. I am partial to Godiva truffles but a red velvet cupcake is always a good choice!

2. Watch a Romantic Movie: Last year I spent my Valentine's day watching Ryan Gosling movies. You can never have too much eye candy on Valentine's day. Some of my favorite romantic movies are Across the Universe and 500 Days of Summer.

3. Treat Yourself: Every girl needs to get herself something nice on Valentine's day! Some ideas are Rifle journals, bubble bath by Lollia, or butter nail polish in Rosie Lee.

4. Music: What's Valentine's without some love songs?! The Beatles record of love songs is a given on any Valentine's day. I'm also mixing in some Lumineers this V-day.

Happy Valentine's to you & yours.

52 Lists // Week 5...

This week's list is nowhere near finished. This list was hard for me to put together because I have SO MUCH that I am grateful for and I didn't know how to put all of it into words. This is what I have for now, but I am sure that I will be adding on to it...
