It is no secret that one of my favorite things to photograph is food, especially sweets. That's why it might seem hard to believe that for a long time I didn't have a good relationship with food. In fact, I hated food. However, now I am at a place in my life where I really enjoy food. I will be the first to admit that I am not a super healthy eater. I have tried eating organic, cutting out lots of meat- things like that. For some reason I just can't do it or if I do it it doesn't last long.
Something I still struggle with a good amount of the time is my body image. There really hasn't been a time in my life when I have been happy with the way that I looked. That's a sad thing. Unfortunately, it's something that a lot of girls go through. However, lately I've been really taking care of myself. I've been working out during the week and watching that I don't eat tons of sugar, and I have been drinking lots of water. What also really helps me is knowing that there are women out there who I think are GORGEOUS and they are not skinny as a rail. Two women who really inspire me are Adele and Mindy Kaling.
These ladies are not your average "hollywood" girls, but I think they are so much better. They are beautiful and they don't care about what other people say about their weight. You know why? Because they are confident in themselves and they aren't afraid to enjoy food and live a normal life. I love this quote from Adele:
"I like looking nice, but I always put comfort over fashion. I don't find thin girls attractive; be happy and healthy. I've never had a problem with the way I look. I'd rather have lunch with my friends than go to the gym."
All of that to say that I am working on loving my body. I'm not going to put myself on a diet that I can't handle. And personally, I'm 20 years old and I don't think that I should have to worry about dieting at this time in my life. Right now I just want to focus on taking care of my body by exercising and eating better. I think that we all should enjoy life and and love the way we look. If you want to eat a cupcake then eat a cupcake. I'm still going to enjoy food and take lots of pictures of it, but I am just going to try and cut out the unnecessary stuff.
Peace and Love,
Em
I'm sure every woman can relate to having body image issues. I can also relate to not wanting to diet. I don't like the word DIEt. Not at all. I also don't like the idea of limiting ourselves and say 'I can't have this' I agree, have a cupcake, just don't have 10 in one month. For me, I've also tried things that didn't work for me. Vegetarianism, 1200 calorie diet, etc. However, as you know, I've now found a 'lifestyle' diet that suits me well and works. There is actually science behind this one and I think that's why it works so well. Hang in there Em! Life is good! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words Ruth! I really love you pointed out the DIE in dieting. We truly are dying to something in ourselves when we do it. I think it's great that you have found a lifestyle that works for you! You go girl! You are looking so fabulous!!!
